Stop That Train - Vanilla Ice Music Video (1990)
Vanilla Ice's first single and music video with SBI/EMI - a mainstream record company.
Up until this point, Ice's songs (including Ice Ice Baby) had been released independently and Ice had been an underground rapper.
This song was featured on Ice's album; To The Extreme which was released in 1990 - which became the fastest selling hip hop record in the world - selling over 7 million copies before the year was over.
The song was written and produced by Vanilla Ice.
The song (about a beautiful woman that takes Ice on a wild ride) is rumored to be a metaphor for the record industry.
Featuring the VIP Posse - Vanilla Ice's dancers and childhood friends.

He is right, rap music is extremely simple music. It's just a beat and a repeating rhythmic background element. There are only so many ways you can do that. Same with most harmony, the key is to make it not sound too much like another popular track. Which rap lyrics manages to do adequately. There's enough original stuff in Vanilla Ice's music for it not to be copying.

It pains me to hear kids 'react' to Under Pressure with Bowie and Queen the first thing you hear them say is "Ice, ice, baby!". No one should put Vanilla Ice on the same level as Queen and Bowie by comparing them, linking them, matching them. Worse, one will occasionally ask if Queen and Bowie copied Vanilla Ice as they foolishly assume that because they, sadly, heard the one hit wonder first then Vanilla Ice, the hack, must have first written the music and the masters of music copied the clown. Ick. Just ... ick. ☹

Why do ppl keep saying "it's only 3 notes" or "just a short bass riff" when that's CLEARLY not the case??? 🤣 Listen to the 2 songs back to back... he legit stole MOST elements of that song, and barely added anything to make it a new song besides the lyrics/vocals. It's the bass line, PLUS those 2 high notes at the end of the bassline that are arguably the most iconic thing in Ice Ice Baby (*IMO)... PLUS the snares & snaps, that are nearly identical if not actually identical, even the reverb/fx on the percussion are exactly the same.. they just added a lil shaker & some bigger snares right on top of them, and only AFTER the intro... plus they added a kick and that 2nd 80's/90's bassline & synth combination in the verses only. There are more stolen elements than newly added elements in Ice Ice Baby, AND (IMO) the added elements are far less important to the overall track than the stolen ones. He didn't reinvent shit... he just took someone elses music straight up & masked it with lesser/cheaper sounding musical elements, then rapped some of the corniest bars in the history of Hip-Hop over it! 😆😆😆 Whether you think that's perfectly fine or not us another debate entirely... but don't try to play it off like he didn't do what he quite obviously DID do. PS... and just for the record; if you take property, whether intellectual or physical, which doesn't belong to you, without the owner's permission; that's called STEALING. Period. No matter how common it is, or what deals are made after the fact; it's literally THEFT by definition. FACTS. 💯 It's also definitely 100% illegal, there are no loopholes, you can't use a certain number of seconds, or modify it a certain degree, or even copy it melodically and reprogram your own instrument to imitate it.... ALL considered copyright infringement. The fact that the original owners of the record/publishing are willing to let it slide and settle out of court in no way changes that. Nor does the fact that "everyone does it". Nor does the fact that poor artists SUPPOSEDLY don't have the means to make great music WITHOUT stealing. Nor does the fact that the population loves the music being made out of the stolen property. It's theft, it's wrong, it's illegal, there's no debating these facts, it is what it is. Imagine an aspiring young career criminal instead of an artist was standing in front of a judge after stealing a CAR, (rather than someone's FAAAAAR more valuable intellectual property)..... and imagine him trying to convince the judge he should let him off bc millions of ppl have stolen cars before him and many even got away with it, therefore HE shouldn't have to face any real consequences or even be considered a thief at all. Now imagine it was YOUR car, not just a random theoretical member of society, and what he did to it while it was in his possession completely ruined it for you, defiled it, destroyed it, made it look and smell like a big steaming pile of donkey shit, and left you to deal with the mess they turned it into..... Would that be cool with y'all or what??? Didn't think so! 😂 Well to an artist who's dedicated their entire LIFE to their music, and had to go through many years of the most hellish of ordeals, just to even get to the point where they're ABLE to create music on a world class level at all; that intellectual property means more than 1000 cars, your first car, your fantasy car, your house, whatever physical property you can think of pales in comparison. On the other hand, I also believe music is something more than just the artist who creates it, and it comes from another place we can't explain, and once we release it to the world, in a way it's no longer ours, we have to let go to an extent.. and whatever it grows into, how it impacts the world, is no longer for us to decide. But that's on a philosophical level, as far as the real world goes, intellectual property is no different than physical property; and if I invented, developed, created, and published my own intellectual property entirely from scratch, and covered my bases legally, that means it belongs to ME and only me, and I'm the only one who gets to decide who I let use it or don't, and I can name any price I feel like, and they can take it or leave it, and if they steal it without my permission, they are literally stealing my prized possessions then acting like I'M the bad guy for thinking that's not ok. The fact is they should be asking FIRST, then respecting whatever decision the owner makes, no matter what. Period. Artists and producers need to get a fkn grip and learn to become REAL composers & songwriters.. like every other artist in history has had to & most still do, whether rich or dirt poor. Anything less is a fake, unethical, cash-grab.. either by other artists or whole corporations and teams, and everyone doing it is a culture vulture... REGARDLESS OF RACE! 🤣 PPS.. The only exception or grey area here for me personally, (*this is not a legal exception, just my opinion); would be ppl like Dj Premier, who actually chop up samples into sometjing almost unidentifiable and use them in a completely different way, that's in and of itself another art-form, making a track with an entirely different vibe in every way.... I RESPECT that. Doesn't mean it's legal or legit in any way; but I respect it. Ice Ice Baby is just a blatent rip off by an industry 🪴 and the guy's just shameless about it too smh 🤨 But hey, if some asshole wants to take one of my songs one day and make some cringy corny record off it that blows up for whatever reason, and their version generates millions in revenue for all of us 30 years later still, nvm the initial amounts when it was a hot record..... well shit, I guess I might just have to bite the bullet and settle too! 😆🤣😂 Take from that what you will folks... I'm out.. 😄 ✌️😎 🔹️🔷️CYRUS🔷️🔹️

When you sample you should give credit to the original artist and disclose what exactly you took. If this is not done, you are claiming that you created the sampled part as part of your whole track.
